Judicial review in Mexico; a study of the amparo suit
Published in Unknown Binding by Published for the Institute of Latin American Studies by the University of Texas Press ()
Author: Richard D. Baker
Average review score:

Excellent study!
As a lawyer specializing in Amparo and Criminal Law, I can say that this is a trully excellent book. Dr. Baker's analysis of the Mexican amparo system is excellent, and it is a good begining for comparing Mexican judicial review to that of the United States.

Because the book was written in 1971, some amendments have been made to the amparo law since then, so you will have to study about these changes elsewhere. Nonetheless, as the essence of the institution has not changed, Dr. Baker's book is still an excellent analysis of the Mexican Amparo system. If you are fluent in Spanish, you may also want to check "El Juicio de Amparo" by Ignacio Burgoa, and the book by Sergio Leff, which will be printed in the year 2000.

K'Aatsina: A Novel of Rebellion
Ms. Harrigan has done it again! This novel, like her previous one, Acoma: A Novel of Conquest, is an engrossing read alive with wonderful characters in an exotic time and place. No one makes history come alive the way Harrigan does. I eagerly await whatever is next from this very talented writer.

Keepers of the Wilderness (Environmental History Series, No 15)
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (May, 2000)
Author: Arturo Longoria
Average review score:

Finding yourself in Mr. Longoria's experience.
Arturo keeps the reader intent upon the tale as it unfolds, transporting the reader into places both wondrous and disconcerting. We examine where the human race is going, why wildness is so vital, and how we might protect the little which is left. The book is easily and enjoyably read, but leaves you pondering what we must help to solve.

Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a child I grew up hearing that if I stay out to late that "La Llorona" would get me and mistake for one of ther childern and take me away forever. This book tells of the story of a young girl that thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world, and that no man in her village was good enough for her, that was until a hansome caballero rode into the village and married her. He treat good for the first months of the marrige they had childern and then he left her for a younger woman, her beauty had faded over the years as a result of this, blined by her anger she grabed all her children and throught them into the river and killed them. Once she reliazed what she had done, she ran down the river trying to get them back and triped over a rock and hit her head and died. I enjoyed this story and found it intersting that is tale is very true.

Recommended reading for all students of Hispanic music.
This survey of hispanic folk music of the Rio Grande may be regionally specific, but it will prove essential to any student of Hispanic music and provides a wide-ranging history which examines the religious music from 16th-century Spain, Mexican folk tunes, and melodies which are native to the Rio Grande region. Songs appear in Spanish and English and the book includes excellent black and white photos and historical notes.

Amate is amazing
Amate painting is one of the most neglected traditions in folk art. Amith provides a superb treatment of the topic, with amazing color plates. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it is an artistic revelation.
